Hidden gem in El Born !! Everything we ordered was incredibly delicious: gazpacho andaluz, tortilla de patatas, chipirones, duck canelloni, patatas bravas and catalán sausage. Every time I’m in Barcelona I bring my family here.

Very cute tapas restaurant. Everything was delicious and the air conditioning was a bonus after the bike ride. Crispy eggplant with cheese and honey was the surprise winner.

They have written about this terrace

The most talked-about feature of La Bona Sort is its hidden indoor terrace, a private garden right in the centre of the city.
  • Its low-arched courtyard is where the carriage quarters were reached, where the horses of the first mail coaches leaving Placeta d'en Marcús used to rest.

The indoor terrace you cannot see from the street

You walk in through the doorway on Carrer dels Carders, down a stone passage, and at the far end the terrace opens up: 300 m² under the open sky, in what used to be the stables of the old inn.

Award-winning interior design. And that is not us saying it.

The manor house, documented since the 16th century, was redesigned by the Jordi Ginabreda studio.

Winner in the Surface Interiors category

Forty years, three generations and a Born manor house

What is now La Bona Sort was an inn, and before that a stable. The house has been documented since the 16th century.

Celsa and her daughter Débora, of La Bona Sort, in the dining room
Celsa and Débora: the second and third generation of the house.

It was an inn until the 19th century, and today's dining room sits in the old stables. In 1968 the family turned it into a neighbourhood bar-bodega, and they have not moved since.

It is now run by the second and third generation: Celsa, daughter of the founders, and her daughter Débora, already in the house. In the kitchen, Carlos Moreira, trained at Hofmann.

Tank beer from the cellar, holm-oak charcoal and, so they say, the house of the old song «La Marieta de l'Ull Viu».

Celsa tells the story: how her parents took it on, when the Born market was still across the street.
  1. 16th century The house already appears documented in El Born.
  2. Until the 19th It was a travellers' inn. Today's dining room was the stables.
  3. 1968 The family turns it into a neighbourhood bar-bodega.
  4. Today Celsa and Débora: second and third generation.

Come with your questions answered

Do I need to book?
It is the safest bet, especially at weekends and at dinner time. Booking takes under a minute and the confirmation arrives straight away.
Do you have a terrace?
We have an indoor terrace of some 300 metres, at the end of the passage, which you cannot see from the street. If you would rather sit there, tell us when you book.
Where exactly are you?
At Carrer dels Carders, 12, right in El Born. Five minutes on foot from the Jaume I metro station (L4).
Can I bring my dog?
For now we cannot allow pets in the dining room or on the terrace. Sorry about that.
Are there vegetarian options?
Yes: the garden and grill section is all vegetables, and there are salads, escalivada, mushrooms, asparagus and Padrón peppers.
Can we come with children?
Of course. Tapas to share work very well at a table with children, and the indoor terrace is quiet.
